Neway International are seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to join our client based with Plymouth City Council.
Location: Ballard House, West Hoe Road, West Hoe, Plymouth, Devon, PL1 3BJ
Hours: 37 per week
Rate: PAYE: £25.35 per hour
Work Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days in the office, 3 days remote
About The Client
Plymouth City Council’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team sits within the wider HROD function and plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, compliant, and supportive working environment for all employees. The team provides expert advice, guidance, and assurance across the organisation, supporting managers and staff to meet statutory responsibilities and embed a positive safety culture.
The Role
The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor will provide professional advice, support, and guidance across the Council on all matters relating to health, safety, and employee wellbeing. You will work closely with managers, HR colleagues, and service areas to ensure compliance with legislation, promote safe working practices, and contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and wellbeing initiatives. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence and support stakeholders at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on health, safety, and wellbeing matters across the organisation.
- Support managers in meeting statutory duties and implementing safe systems of work.
- Assist in the development, review, and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidance.
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, inspections, and investigations as required.
- Promote a positive safety culture and support wellbeing initiatives.
- Deliver training, briefings, and awareness sessions to staff and managers.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and internal standards.
- Work collaboratively with HR, service managers, and external partners.
Candidate Requirements
- Relevant health and safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, best practice, and risk management.
- Experience providing professional H&S advice within a complex organisation.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
