Permanent, full-time role based in Christchurch | Two Positions Available

Contribute to transforming the future of health in this Analyst role

Provide support in a vital programme of work in the Planning, Funding and Outcome space. Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders. We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations β€” from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities. About the Role

As a Senior Health Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in shaping health service performance and strategy through the extraction, collation and distribution of data, insights, and information, using both national data sets and a rich regional Data Warehouse. You will be able to lead advanced data analysis, modelling, and visualisation to inform decision-making across Hospital & Specialist Services, Commissioning, and other directorates. Your work will also support responses to parliamentary questions, OIA requests, and media inquiries, whilst contributing to continuous improvement and equity-focused initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to influence national health outcomes through evidence-based insights and collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Through data analysis, we inform evidence-based decision-making, identify areas for improvement, enhance overall efficiency in the health system and provide accountability reporting to the public.

About you

With a background in data and analytics, you will have been responsible for delivering high quality, evidence-based, forward-focused insights using best practice approaches and methods. You will be committed to developing your analytical skills, and working within a broader team to produce, present and interpret data sets that support decision-makers. You will actively support and mentor other team members, sharing your knowledge to help build capability across the team.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Health Informatics) or 7–10 years' experience in intelligence analyst roles within large organisations
  • Knowledge of New Zealand hospital datasets
  • Advanced skills in PowerBI, SSRS, SQL, and/or SnowSQL
  • Proven skills and knowledge in data manipulation/exploration, visualisation, and insight analysis
  • Good understanding of data management, data warehouse or cloud data platforms
  • Leadership experience and coaching skills including strong collaboration and relationship building
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to interpret technical requirements
  • Ability to produce and design best Business Intelligence solution for customers
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in health

Preferred experience also includes:

  • Some knowledge or experience in Python or R
  • Advanced Analytics skills (predictive analytics, forecasting, modelling)
  • Experience in low-code or no-code BI tools or PBI service administration
