Starting salary: $96,307 - $130,298 + KiwiSaver

The role is based in Christchurch. You will be working in a collaborative project environment with people from other disciplines to develop our data services using advanced data processing tools and platforms, including Databricks and data warehousing solutions.

This role would suit someone who can demonstrate:

  • 5 + years of experience as a Data Engineer with proven expertise in data engineering patterns including ingestion, processing, data quality, and storage.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills
  • Recent expertise in Databricks Platform including Delta Lake, Notebooks, SQL/PySQL, Python/PySpark, Unity Catalog and pipeline orchestration.
  • Proficient in ETL/ELT pipeline design and data modelling against a Medallion architecture.
  • Proficient in Python, PySpark, and SQL for building and optimizing data pipelines.
  • Skilled in orchestration (Databricks Workflows), pipeline monitoring and optimizing Spark jobs/Databricks clusters.
  • Skilled in CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitLab, Github).
  • Experience in working with Data Warehousing solutions (Azure SQL DB, Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, Azure Synapse).
  • Experience in BI Tools (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experienced in Agile, cross-team collaboration, documentation.
  • Demonstrate an ability to quickly learn about Stats NZ and relevant business processes, surveys and data.
