New World Fashion Sourcing is an established Vietnamese woven manufacturer. With 5 self-owned factories, multiple Head Offices, and a global outreach, the business has built a reputation for delivering innovation, excellence and quality garments at competitive prices.
We are looking to recruit an experienced Women’s Tailoring and Outerwear designer. The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the Head of Design and will be responsible for designing exciting commercial products for several UK & European retailers. This role is based in London - Hackney but does require some travel to the head offices in Vietnam - Haiphong.
Responsibilities
- Work collectively with the wider team to produce seasonal analysis of trend, colour and key shape direction using a variety of media sources, research platforms and inspirational travel.
- Work closely with allocated retailer buying and design departments to highlight and influence key opportunities within trend, shape, fabric and trim.
- Sketch dynamic, commercial product specific to each retailer’s individual brand identity, covering entry to exit price points.
- Send detailed sketch and tech packs to the sample department and work closely with pattern cutters through toile stage to maintain the vision of the product.
- Manage sample lead time efficiently, consistently working within time restraints and to sample deadlines to ensure all samples are presented to retailers 'buy ready’ in time for their range building and pre-sign off meetings.
- Work closely with fabric mills to source, develop and select key season bases and textures within price parameters, to ensure affordable newness.
- Continued assessment of sample ranges to ensure Company standard is maintained.
Requirements
- Relevant experience in tailoring and outerwear design for a retailer/supplier.
- Experience in managing/delegating work to the Junior members of the team.
- Confident to carry out independent customer meetings.
- Literate in Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Extensive garment construction knowledge – for both technical packs and product analysis.
- Good understanding of fabric to confidently select qualities that deliver on aesthetic, cost and sustainability.
- Great organisational, time management and self-motivation skills.
