About the Role
The 16–25s Missional Pastor will pioneer, establish, and grow a missional presence among young people aged 16–25 in Gateshead—particularly those not currently engaging with church. The role focuses on students in Further Education, apprentices, NEET young adults, and university students from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds. The postholder will build relationships, create pathways for faith exploration, disciple new believers, and develop a new worshipping community within this demographic. They will work across Alive Church’s youth (11–17) and young adults (18–29) ministries, ensuring continuity and integration through the transition from adolescence to adulthood. The position carries an occupational requirement for the post‑holder to be a practising Christian, and all appointments are subject to our safer recruitment process.

Key Responsibilities
- Missional Engagement (Primary Focus)
- Establish a relational, trusted presence within Gateshead College, offering wellbeing support, mentoring, enrichment activities, and chaplaincy-style engagement.
- Develop partnerships with FE/HE staff, student services, and local agencies.
- Build missional pathways for students, apprentices, NEET young adults, and university students.
- Explore alternative pathways if on‑site chaplaincy is not possible, including: Town‑centre missional presence in/near Trinity Square, Sixth Form and school‑based outreach, Community‑based gatherings, discussion spaces and pastoral drop‑ins.
- Create spaces where 16–25s can explore faith, encounter Jesus, and begin a discipleship journey.
- Develop and lead Alive Communities (small groups) tailored to 16–25s.
- Equip young people for peer evangelism using resources from HTB, Fusion, Festive, and in‑house tools.
- Integrate 16–25s into intergenerational communities where appropriate.
- Identify, recognise, raise up, release, and resource young leaders.
- Develop a pipeline of 16–25s serving in ministry and mission.
- Support young adults exploring vocation, including pathways into diocesan MEV and discernment processes.
- Worshipping Community Formation
- Contribute to shaping gatherings that serve young people well.
- Work with the Youth Pastor to create environments where 16–25s can worship, belong, and grow.
- Partnership & Community Engagement
- Build on existing relational capital through Love Your Neighbour and Hope House.
- Engage with young parents, asylum seekers, refugees, and vulnerable young adults connected to our social transformation work.
- Strengthen relationships with local schools, civic partners, and churches.
- Safeguarding, Governance & Administration
- Operate fully within Alive Church, Diocese of Durham, and FE/HE safeguarding frameworks.
- Complete all required safeguarding training prior to starting.
- Maintain accurate records and data securely.
- Participate in monthly supervision and quarterly KPI reporting.
Person Specification
- A committed follower of Jesus with a passion for mission and discipleship.
- Experience working with young people (16–25s) in church, education, or community settings.
- Strong relational and communication skills, able to build trust with diverse young adults.
- Ability to pioneer, initiate, and sustain new missional activity.
- Understanding of safeguarding for under-18s and vulnerable adults.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and external partners.
- Organised, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in FE/HE chaplaincy, youth work, or community outreach.
- Experience developing leaders or discipling young adults.
- Understanding of intercultural ministry and diverse communities.
- Familiarity with HTB, Fusion, Festive, or similar missional frameworks.
- Ability to lead worship, teach, or facilitate small groups.

Safeguarding & Accountability
The postholder will comply with all safeguarding policies of Alive Church, the Diocese of Durham, and any FE/HE institution. Any safeguarding concerns will be escalated through the appropriate institutional process. The postholder will receive monthly supervision and quarterly reporting oversight.

Terms & Conditions
Salary: £29,700 (subject to funding). Training and development provided, including FE‑specific safeguarding. Initial 3‑Year Fixed‑term contract aligned with project funding, followed by a potential 2 further years. Potential contract beyond funding window depending on project development.
