Days: 4 days a week on a part-time, fixed-term contract until 9 January 2026 which could be extended depending on further financing of the role.
Work Pattern: Mainly on site, occasional opportunities to work from home.
Job Summary: The Finance Officer will play a critical role in managing the financial operations of IMPRINT London in the Parish of St Mary Woolnoth, St Edmund the King and St Clement Eastcheap under the overall leadership of the Rector of the Parish, Ric Thorpe, the Bishop of Islington and the Minister in charge of the Parish community, Reverend Wole Agbaje. The Finance Manager role will sit under the Parish Operations Manager and is specifically involved with ensuring effective management of finances and stewardship of resources and providing financial guidance to support the mission and vision of the Parish Ministry.
We are looking for someone with extensive experience, familiarity with relevant accounting standards for charities and exposure to accounting for investments with business acumen who would ensure that accurate records are kept by standard practices, establish budgets, forecast future cash flows and provide periodic financial analysis. The role would involve monitoring of budget performance, expenditure control, and managing Parish finance procedures in an environment of faith, where finances do not lead decision making but support it.
You should have the ability to work successfully as part of a small busy team and the communication skills to liaise well with all team members including senior budget holders, and suppliers. You should also be reliable, efficient and organised with the ability to prioritise work and meet strict deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
The Finance Manager would work in close proximity with the Operations Manager, the Treasurer and alongside the Small Business Management in order to ensure that economically viable and prudent decisions are made. You will be able to work with volunteers and lead teams by building an agile hybrid team of volunteers and staff in order to ensure there is a wider support base for the financial work and would therefore need to be able to show strong communication and teamwork capabilities with all relevant stakeholders (including trading suppliers, senior management and other colleagues).
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring weekly finance meetings with the Parish Operations Manager and monthly meetings with the Coffee Shop Finance Manager and Treasurer take place.
- Set up the weekly payment runs.
- Process purchase invoices using Xero.
- Track expenditure and reconcile accounts.
- Administer gift aid, tax returns and tax claims making sure to keep records and gift aid declarations are up to date.
- Meet regularly with the Minister in charge to share budget updates and discuss expected expenditure.
- Working with the HR team, instruct the external payroll company in a timely manner.
- Support the business and legal side of income generating activities.
- Manage various project budgets.
- Maintain the Fixed Asset register ensuring that the capitalisation costs and depreciation rates are correct. Update and prepare journals as required.
- Support the small business management with financial analysis on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as revenue per customer, cost of goods sold, and labour costs related to the Coffee Shop to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Provide insights into the financial implications of operational decisions and strategic initiatives as they arise.
- Suggest cost control measures to optimise expenses without compromising quality or customer experience.
- Monitor and analyse cost structure, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements.
- Evaluate total revenue of profits, losses, and financial position of the Parish finances with the Treasurer of the PCC and produce quarterly reports for the PCC.
- Liaise with banks and administer new banking mandates and anti-money laundering processes.
- Manage standing orders and direct debits.
- Count and deposit donated cash and cheques.
- Liaise with investment companies and administer investment updates, mandates and asset liquidation requests on behalf of the PCC.
- Support pension payments for staff.
- Work closely with the Parish Manager in preparing grant requests and proposals.
- Stay informed about relevant financial regulations and ensure the small business financial practices comply with local laws and industry standards.
- Support the work of encouraging congregational giving; analyse giving; be on top of Christian giving practices and ways of promoting this.
- Communicate financial information in a clear and accessible manner to facilitate decision-making.
- Calculate, record, and balance financial reports and support the Treasurer and external auditor in the formation of end of year accounts.
- Lead on the preparation and submission of annual reports and returns.
- Lead on the budget setting and reporting process, working closely with senior leadership and the PCC.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis on accounting, finance, business management, or economics, and preferably, a certification as a Public Accountant (CPA).
- Suitable experience with relevant accounting standards (including SORP, FRS 101 and FRS 102); familiarity with accounting software (primarily XERO).
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and budgeting.
- Experience (3+ years) in financial management, preferably in a non-profit/charity or church setting.
- Familiarity with non-profit accounting standards and regulations.
- Small business experience preferable to support trading and investment activities.
- Relevant experience with payroll administration and employment law.
- Proficiency in setting up annual budgets and reports using online tools, as well as experience with purchase ledgers and reconciliations.
- Proven experience of working effectively with non-finance staff and contributing to wider organisational aims outside of the traditional finance remit.
