Chinnor Community Church, Chinnor, Oxfordshire, UK

The Pastor is a key role within the leadership team at CCC. The Pastor is expected to fulfil the New Testament requirements of an Elder, in particular to have primary responsibility, together with the other Elders, for the spiritual development of the Church through discipleship and preaching of the Word. The Pastor will also lead the Church in developing initiatives and encouraging new thinking in its witness to the village and beyond.

Main Responsibilities

  • Preaching/teaching
  • To preach regularly at CCC, typically twice per month, but more often if required (including at short notice if necessary).
  • To have primary responsibility for the scriptural content of all preaching and teaching at CCC.
  • To encourage growth and development of preaching team members, including training new team members.
  • To work with the team to develop a preaching programme.
  • To develop discipleship that empowers and inspires people to reach their potential.
  • To lead, direct and develop pastoral care, including home and hospital visits.
  • To visit/support those who are bereaved, face difficulties or seek spiritual guidance, assisted by others in the eldership team.
  • To support individuals in the fellowship, offering guidance and encouragement as appropriate.
  • To lead services of Dedication, Marriage, Baptism and Funerals.
  • To encourage and develop the prayer life of the church, in groups and as individuals.
  • To encourage the church in worship.
  • To support and encourage the Worship team.
  • To supervise and manage a Youth Worker.
  • To oversee all children’s and young peoples’ activities, working with volunteers/employees, to ensure an active and fulfilling youth ministry.
  • To teach, encourage and support the youth leaders.
  • To review and develop CCC’s outreach strategy.
  • To encourage individuals in their witness.
  • To support existing CCC initiatives.
  • To assist in the provision of Christian Courses, such as Alpha and Marriage Enrichment.
  • To play an active part in encouraging CCC’s missions team in support for individuals and organisations undertaking mission work that is not directly connected to CCC’s local outreach.
  • To encourage CCC members to take an active involvement in combined church activities.
  • To ensure that CCC is represented with the other churches in witnessing to the village.
  • To take part in joint Church Services where appropriate.
  • To lead initiatives that develop further the co-operation between the local churches.

Church Leadership Team (CLT)

  • To attend and lead Church Leadership Team meetings.
  • To meet on a regular basis with the other Elders.
  • To be an open and responsive leader who will be collaborative with the existing leadership.
  • To engage with an annual personal development review with the Elders.
  • To work with the church administrator to ensure administrative processes are practiced and followed in an effective and compliant manner.
  • To develop members to take leadership roles.

Other Responsibilities

  • Communication - to work with the eldership team to prepare an annual ‘Vision’ statement for the church. In addition, the Pastor is expected to prepare articles on behalf of CCC for internal and external Church communications.
  • Bible Study/Home groups/other small groups - to support leaders of these groups, offering guidance on suitable material and teaching methods. Together with the Eldership team, the Pastor will oversee the portfolio of small group activities to ensure that they integrate with other church activities and support the social and spiritual development of the fellowship.

Chinnor Community Church has a vacancy for a full-time permanent Pastor to help us take the next steps in our journey with Christ and our witness to the community. We are a Spirit-led, lively evangelical church with a growing body of approximately 100 people located in a friendly large Oxfordshire village. Chinnor is located at the base of the Chilterns and is within easy commuting distance of London and has excellent motorway access.
