St Paul’s Cheltenham are looking to appoint to the roles of Children’s Pastor, Youth Pastor and possibly Community Pastor, depending on the strengths and passions of applicants. We have at least one full-time role equivalent and possibly one and a half. We are seeking God for the right person or persons to join our small team on mission in a deprived, urban area.

On a normal Sunday, we have 30-50 kids from 18 months to year 5 in two groups, 15-20 young people years 6-8, and 5-10 older young people years 9-13. Our teams are well-resourced with team leaders and members; there are gaps but we have untapped potential within our church for stronger teams. After covid, we employed a youth pastor and a children’s pastor, which proved useful for a time when capacity was low. Restrictions on funds mean we are unable to re-employ at the same level.

There is also significant opportunity for mission in our local area. We currently run a toddler group and holiday clubs, which have proven to be excellent methods of outreach. We have a local primary school which we are invited into regularly, and there is a local secondary school that is also open to our involvement.

Finally, there is a community hub in the middle of our estate with whom we have a great relationship, and there are opportunities to run outreach and, in time, plant a church.

We need a person/persons with experience who can oversee the ministries to young people, especially in recruiting, training, and encouraging the team. We would also like a person with a pioneering bent to lead outreach into our local community. We are confident that God will lead the right person/people to us, and that the exact configuration of the role will stem from their gifts and passions.

There is no time limit on the application process, and once we have filled the positions, the advert will be withdrawn. For an initial discussion and/or to plan a visit, please contact Roger Widdecombe on 07989 354640 or vicar@stpaulscheltenham.com.
