Melksham Church Overview

- Contract: Part-time (0.5 FTE), subject to a 6-month probation period
- Hours: 18.75 hours per week, including Sunday mornings and occasional flexible hours to meet ministry needs
- Salary: £14,000 – £16,000 per annum, depending on experience (calculated as 0.5 FTE of the full-time £28,000 – £32,000 band)

Context & Purpose of the Role
Melksham Church is a growing evangelical Anglican church with a vision to Make Jesus Known. Following a season of wonderful growth in our children’s and families ministry, Melksham Church operates a split leadership model to support our expanding community. Working hand-in-hand with our Kids & Youth Lead, the Kids & Families Co-ordinator focuses on the practical execution, administration, site oversight, and smooth delivery of our ministries from ages 0–11 + Youth, ensuring our environments are welcoming, safe, and highly organized. We're looking for someone who loves Jesus, enjoys working with children and families, and has great organisational skills to help our ministry flourish.
Key Responsibilities
- Sunday Ministry
- Help shape culture to be a fun, safe and engaging environment where children can grow in faith.
- Support volunteer teams and ensure groups are well organised.
- Co-ordinate the practical running of Sunday children's groups (including ‘site manager’ oversight for groups).
- Prepare spaces, resources and materials, implementing content from Lead.
- Oversee registration processes.
- Help facilitate pack down after Sunday services.
- Responsibility for resetting spaces and implement and maintain organisational systems in spaces.
- Manage rotas and assist Kids & Families Lead with communication.
- Help organise training and team gatherings.
- Midweek Ministry
- Help develop mid-week ministries (eg pre-school and families provision, parenting course) alongside Kids & Families Lead role.
- Administration
- Maintain accurate records and rotas using ChurchSuite.
- Manage registrations, attendance and communication.
- Assist with planning calendars and ministry logistics.
- Help administer the children's ministry budget.
- Schools and Community
- Support relationships with local schools.
- Assist with organising school visits, church events and family outreach.
- Safeguarding
- Alongside Parish Safeguarding Officer, ensure all ministry follows safeguarding policies and best practice.
- Maintain and monitor volunteer DBS and safeguarding training records.
- Perform tasks such as DBS document verification and other on the ground tasks, whilst working closely with the Parish Safeguarding Officer.
- General
- Attend relevant staff meetings and planning meetings.
- Participate fully in the life of Melksham Church.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the role.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who:
- is a committed Christian who is able to support and promote the vision and values of Melksham Church
- is administratively capable & efficient
- is experienced and comfortable with project management, organisation and able to juggle multiple tasks
- is highly proficient using IT systems such as Google Workspace and ChurchSuite
- loves seeing children and families come to know Jesus
- communicates well both verbally and in writing
- works well as part of a team
- is willing to work flexibly, including Sunday mornings and occasional evenings/ weekends
- is committed to safeguarding children and team
- Experience of children's or family ministry in a church
- Experience organising events
- Experience using Canva or social media
- Experience working with schools or community organisations.

This role has a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) for a practising Christian. All appointments are subject to satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS check, and the right to work in the UK. The deadline for applications is Friday 11th September 2026, with shortlisting expected to take place the following week and interviews during the week beginning 21st September. This is a 0.5 FTE position. There may be an opportunity to combine this role with another 0.5 FTE Parish Administrator position within the team to create a full-time position, subject to the successful applicant meeting the requirements of both roles.
