Head of Operations – St Michael le Belfrey

Permanent Head of Operations required! At St Michael le Belfrey in York, known as The Belfrey, we are preparing for a once-in-a-generation moment. In 2027 we will return to our transformed medieval church building following the completion of Impact – our multi-million-pound restoration and redevelopment project that will create new opportunities for worship, mission, discipleship and serving the city of York and beyond.

We’re looking for an exceptional Head of Operations to help lead us through this exciting and demanding season of change and beyond. Working alongside the Priest in Charge, senior leadership team and as a member of the Impact Project Team, you’ll play a pivotal role in preparing for our return, embedding new ways of working, and ensuring the operational excellence needed to support a thriving, growing church.

Situated next door to York Minster, we are a large, vibrant, evangelical Anglican church with a growing congregation, serving all ages and especially strong in Children and Families, Youth and students.

Responsibilities include overseeing all change events at The Belfrey, ensuring smooth operational effectiveness, and delivering our mission to bring God’s transformation of the North.

The role is full time (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with occasional Sunday and evening work). The position will be based out of The Belfrey’s office in central York, with occasional work across church locations in York. Some flexibility for hybrid working may be considered.

Salary: Pay Band E £42,000–£47,000 depending on experience.

There is a genuine occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010 for the post holder to be a practising Christian, committed to the values and mission of St Michael le Belfrey. The Belfrey is committed to the safeguarding and protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All posts are subject to a recruitment process in line with Church of England guidelines, including enhanced criminal records and barring checks, security of employment history, robust referencing and qualifications checks. Any offer of employment is subject to passing safer recruitment checks.
