Overview
The Parochial Church Council (PCC) is seeking to appoint a Youth Worker at this exciting time of growth and flourishing ministry across Stretton Parish. We are a welcoming Parish and are beginning to see our young people grow in their faith and encounter Jesus. We are also beginning to reach out into the community attracting young people to activities and events. We are looking for someone to lead and develop the youth ministry in a way that helps young people find and follow Jesus amid the realities of 21st‑century life, shape and deliver vibrant, prayerful, and mission‑minded youth work, and lead, disciple and nurture the spiritual, emotional and social development of young people (11‑18), helping them to grow in their Christian faith and integrating them into the life of the wider Parish. We are seeking a youth worker with a heart for young people, someone who loves being with young people, builds genuine relationships, and walks alongside them as they grow in their faith. There is a nurturing aspect to this role, as you support our current youth lifegroup and young people, but also an outward‑facing and pioneering role, as we seek new ways to Make Jesus Known in this community. As Youth Worker, You Will Hold The Following Responsibilities
- Oversee and deliver engaging and age‑appropriate teaching, worship, prayer and activities
- Plan and coordinate youth camps, retreats, special events and weekends away
- Teach regularly within the youth programme and contribute to wider services
- Provide appropriate pastoral support and one‑to‑one mentoring for young people
- Recruit, envision, train, support and raise up a team of capable, passionate and committed volunteers and leaders
- Continue to build Stretton Parish’s relationship with the local secondary school, youth hubs and youth organisations
- Manage programme planning, rotas, records, finances and safeguarding logs
- Participate in Parish life, including prayer gatherings, Sunday services, church‑wide events and occasional preaching and leading of services
Knowledge and skills
- Good administrative, organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage own workload
- Effective communications skills
- Understanding of youth culture
- Secure understanding of safeguarding requirements, health & safety and risk assessments
- An effective leader as well as a team player who can bring out the best in people
- Very good interpersonal skills, including listening skills
- At least three years’ relevant experience, in a voluntary or paid capacity, of working with young people in a church/community setting
- Experience of communicating your Christian faith confidently and in a way that encourages discipleship
- Experience of leading and mentoring young people
