About the Practice

New Street Vets is located in a charming market town within the Blackdown Hills, just a five‑minute walk from the town centre and next to the train station, offering direct links to London and Exeter. Excellent road connections via the A30, A303 and M5, plus dedicated on‑site parking, make commuting straightforward whether you’re travelling locally or from further afield. The practice boasts three consulting rooms, a dedicated X‑ray room, a theatre and prep area, an in‑house laboratory and a brand new ultrasound machine installed in 2025. The team consists of four receptionists, five nurses, three veterinary surgeons and an experienced Practice Manager, all dedicated to delivering exceptional patient and client care. Together, the team brings over 108 years of combined clinical experience, creating a genuinely supportive environment where knowledge is shared and everyone pulls together.

Role Overview

This position can be full or part time, with a typical full‑time week of 40 hours and a 1‑in‑4 Saturday morning rota, with time off in lieu. There are no out‑of‑hours or on‑call requirements. We understand how important balance is, whether that’s family commitments or simply having more flexibility in your week, and we’re very happy to discuss a rota pattern that works for you. As Lead Veterinary Surgeon you’ll work closely with the Practice Manager and wider leadership team to shape and deliver our clinical vision. You’ll mentor and inspire our vets and nurses, ensuring that every patient and client receives the highest standard of care. Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the clinical team in delivering exceptional patient and client care.
  • Mentor and inspire veterinary surgeons and nurses, driving clinical standards and professional development.
  • Collaborate with the Practice Manager and leadership team to define and execute the practice’s clinical vision.
  • Ensure the practice operates to the highest standards of animal health and welfare.
  • Manage day‑to‑day clinical operations and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
