A UK regulated retail bank is seeking an experienced Head of Operations to lead a broad operational function during a period of growth, operational improvement and transformation.

Reporting directly to the COO, this is a high-profile leadership role with responsibility for operational delivery, payments, mortgages operations, controls, operational resilience and supplier management.

The successful individual will also play a key role in driving process improvement, efficiency initiatives and the wider operational change agenda.

This opportunity is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys operating in a smaller organisation where they can have genuine influence, visibility and ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary banking operations team.
  • Oversee day-to-day operational delivery across payments, customer servicing and back-office functions.
  • Ensure robust operational controls, governance and risk management frameworks are maintained.
  • Own operational resilience, business continuity and third-party supplier oversight.
  • Manage key outsourced relationships and service providers.
  • Drive process improvement, efficiency and operational transformation initiatives.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across Risk, Compliance, Finance and Technology.

Experience Required

  • Significant experience within UK retail banking operations.
  • Strong exposure to mortgages and payments operations.
  • Detailed knowledge of Bacs, CHAPS and Faster Payments.
  • Experience leading operational control, governance and resilience frameworks.
  • Proven track record of managing and developing operational teams.
  • Experience delivering operational change, transformation or process improvement programmes.
  • Experience within a small bank, challenger bank or building society environment is highly desirable.
