Overview

Phoenix Community Housing, created by tenants in 2007, is a not-for-profit housing association based in South London. They own and manage more than 7600 homes in Lewisham and are building new homes with a focus on sustainability and high-quality design. Phoenix is the first resident-led housing association in London, empowering tenants and leaseholders to participate in decision-making and become shareholder members. The Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee is responsible for ensuring the committee carries out its delegated duties effectively and that all members can provide views to inform decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Chair the Audit & Risk Committee and support effective governance and risk management for the organisation.
  • Ensure committee processes enable informed decision-making in relation to audit and risk matters.
  • Support engagement with tenants and leaseholders in alignment with Phoenix’s resident-led model.
  • Attend and contribute to board and committee meetings, often in the evenings (hybrid role).
  • Provide independent oversight and challenge as a non-executive member when applicable.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the social/affordable housing sector with in-depth knowledge of audit and risk.
  • Ideally previous non-executive experience or equivalent governance roles.
  • Ability to contribute to strategic discussions and stakeholder engagement in a resident-led organisation.

Remuneration and Terms

Remuneration: £4000 per annum. This is a hybrid role with board and committee meetings often held in the evenings.
