The business operates across main contracting, residential housebuilding, groundworks and brickwork, with a strong reputation in the industry and an exciting pipeline of new projects due to commence in 2027. Currently supported by external H&S consultants, the company is looking to bring the function in house, appointing a dedicated individual who can provide consistent, practical guidance to site teams while ensuring high standards of compliance across the group. This is an excellent opportunity for either an experienced Health & Safety Manager or a capable Senior H&S Advisor looking to step into a standalone management position with greater autonomy and responsibility. Based from the company's offices near Maidstone, the role will involve approximately 14 to 18 site inspections per month, covering projects in locations including Dartford, Chatham, Hailsham and Hythe. A key part of the position will be building strong relationships with Site Managers and operational teams, becoming their first point of contact for health and safety advice and support. The business wants someone who site teams feel comfortable approaching to review risk assessments, method statements, RAMS and other H&S documentation, ensuring these are suitable, site specific and relevant to the actual works being undertaken. The company already has established H&S policies and procedures in place, so the focus will be on maintaining compliance, supporting site teams and ensuring standards are applied consistently across the business. Unlike larger corporate contractors, the business offers a collaborative, hands on working environment with direct access to directors and the opportunity to make a genuine impact. Key Responsibilities * Carrying out approximately 14 to 18 site inspections per month across the group's projects. * Monitoring compliance with H&S legislation, company policies and procedures. * Reviewing risk assessments, method statements, RAMS and subcontractor documentation. * Ensuring H&S documentation is accurate, site specific and appropriate for the works being undertaken. * Acting as the main point of contact for H&S advice and support across site teams. * Producing inspection reports and following up on corrective actions. * Supporting Site Managers with practical safety guidance, toolbox talks and site briefings. * Assisting with incident investigations, near miss reporting and preventative measures. * Monitoring training records, qualifications, certifications and compliance documentation. * Working closely with directors and operational teams to maintain and improve safety standards. Requirements * Experience as a Health & Safety Manager, Senior H&S Advisor or experienced H&S Advisor within UK construction. * Background in main contracting, residential construction, groundworks, civil engineering or brickwork. * NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification. * Good knowledge of CDM 2015, RAMS, COSHH and construction site compliance. * Experience conducting site inspections and reviewing risk assessments and method statements. * Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail. * An approachable, supportive and collaborative attitude, with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices when necessary. * Ability to work independently and manage H&S requirements across multiple sites. * Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Kent and the South East. Experience within a small or medium sized construction business would be particularly beneficial. The company is keen to speak with someone who enjoys working closely with site teams, takes a practical approach to safety and can build positive relationships while maintaining strong compliance standards. What's on Offer? * Salary of £65,000 to £70,000 plus package * Opportunity to take ownership of the in house H&S function across a growing construction group. * Varied role covering main contracting, residential construction, groundworks and brickwork. * Strong pipeline of projects across Kent and the South East for 2027 and beyond. * Genuine autonomy within a standalone position, with no direct reports. * Direct access to directors and senior operational management. * Established H&S policies and procedures already in place. * Supportive working environment focused on collaboration and practical solutions. * Long term stability within a privately owned construction business.
