About the role
- Case Management – manage a patch of rent accounts, proactively maximise income collection and adhere to council procedures.
- Knowledge – assess and assist tenants to maximise benefits, ensuring correct claim of Housing Benefit and Universal Credit.
- Financial Support – provide financial advice to help tenants afford charges and avoid homelessness; refer to external agencies when needed.
- Customer Service – support tenants to improve financial situations through welfare benefits campaigns and surgeries.
- Fast‑Paced Work Environment – thrive in a busy, demanding setting.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills – excellent verbal and written communication and strong relationship‑building abilities.
- Organisation & Record Keeping – strong task management and accurate record maintenance.
- Experience with Complex Customers – background working with individuals who have diverse and complex needs.
- Resilience & Teamwork – work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating adaptability and perseverance.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated understanding of welfare‑based benefits and ability to provide advice on entitlement.
- Experience working with the public and advising on debt management and income maximisation.
- Capability to carry out a wide range of financial tasks, including affordability assessments.
- Mathematics and English GCSE grade C and above or equivalent.
- Home visits are essential; duty rota requires attendance at the office three days per week.
