Are you looking for a rewarding career in Adult Services? New Start have an exciting opportunity within Southport as an Emergency Placement Worker. The successful applicant will work with the team to provide support to vulnerable rough sleepers who access our services throughout the night. IT skills would be advantageous, however full training will be provided. New Start is a family run not-for-profit organisation providing residential and supported accommodation services for vulnerable adults, families, and young people.

Main Duties:

  • To support the Leyland Road's team in delivering Sefton's Crash Bed service.
  • Planning future long and short-term accommodation and resettlement options via a personalised support plan aimed at removing barriers to accommodation.
  • To work within the framework of New Start and the wider Sefton Supported Housing Group's policies and procedures.
  • Being present within the Night Shelter during working hours, to offer on-going support to those who are accessing the provision.
  • Upon arrival into the Night Shelter, Mainstay will be updated, ensuring that a placement is added.
  • Within 24 hours of arrival, a Mainstay Assessment will be completed, and referrals made to hostel type accommodation within Sefton Supported Housing Group.
  • Within 48 hours of arrival, a personalised Support Plan will be completed, this will focus on the immediate barriers to accessing accommodation.
  • Support will be given to ensure all service users are registered on Property Pool Plus, banding is correct, and weekly bids are being placed.
  • Offering on-going coaching, advice, and guidance on housing/resettlement related issues and regularly reviewed through a resettlement review.
  • Educating service users residents around harm reduction, substance misuse and supporting those who are completing recovery from addictions to understand the steps required to access various treatment opportunities.
  • Empowering residents to sustain their welfare benefits, complete budgeting plans and making referrals to New Start's Welfare Benefits Team for further support.
  • Exploring education, training, and employment opportunities with residents.
  • Referring clients on to relevant specialist support agencies to assist with support that cannot be met within the service remit.
  • Liaising with external agencies on behalf of residents to ensure they can access what they need from the services.
  • To oversee the safety and security of the building, staff and residents working and residing at the service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To represent New Start in a professional manner at all times.
  • To ensure that adequate confidentiality and ethical standards are maintained at all times in respect of clients and New Start as a whole.
  • To actively engage and promote professional development by attending team meetings, supervisions, appraisals, and training as required.
  • To work in the interests of service residents, and in-line with professional standards, to develop good working relationships with internal and external services and organisations.
  • To consistently work within New Start's Values, Ethos and Vision and adhering to all Policies and Procedures adopted at New Start and Sefton Supported Housing Group.
