This is an opportunity for a senior legal professional to join the leadership team of a high-performing, politically stable council, and to be involved in exciting and transformative work, including some of London’s most ambitious regeneration plans.

As the Council’s statutory Monitoring Officer, you will champion strong governance and integrity, ensuring the highest standards of conduct and legal compliance. As a member of the corporate leadership team, you will contribute to corporate strategy and delivery, providing high-quality legal advice to elected members and senior officers, influencing critical decisions for Merton’s communities.

Merton is a committed member of the South London Legal Partnership, which provides high-quality legal services to five London boroughs with a combined population of more than one million people.

The Partnership’s success is built on collaboration between the political leaders, chief executives and monitoring officers across the five authorities. As host authority for SLLP, Merton both commissions and supports the service. We are seeking a new Director to play a pivotal role in this important partnership, whilst leading a small, committed and respected service.
