Shape the future of housing in a city like no other. We are transforming housing in Bristol, delivering change at pace across one of the UK's largest council-owned housing portfolios, investing in our existing stock, meeting our compliance and safety obligations, building new homes and creating neighbourhoods that our residents can be proud of. We are championing the voice of residents to tackle inequality, drive innovation and implement a clear strategy that addresses the housing pressures in our city, delivering safe, warm and secure homes for everyone.

Housing is a key political and corporate priority and this is an exciting time to join us, leading and shaping a critical division within our housing directorate. Reporting to our recently appointed Executive Director of Housing, you will be a key member of our newly formed directorate leadership team, providing senior strategic leadership for housing strategy and assurance to ensure safe, compliant, high-quality and financially sustainable housing services.

This is a pivotal role, bringing together our strategic assurance function and leading the frameworks that give Members, residents and regulators confidence in performance, compliance and delivery across our large stock of over 27,000 homes. You will lead strategic asset management and HRA investment planning, ensuring our long-term plans address safety, decarbonisation, affordability and future demand. You will oversee landlord compliance and HRA building safety, drive Consumer Standards readiness and quality assurance, and ensure Decent Homes and wider housing standards are monitored with rigour and transparency.

You will help us develop our data maturity through the improvement of our systems and performance insight. As our strategic lead with the regulator and other external partners, you will be key to developing effective relationships that support our journey of improvement and ensure compliance, but most importantly deliver great homes for our residents.

We are seeking a confident, credible and values-led leader who combines strategic clarity with a strong assurance mindset, bringing senior experience of shaping housing strategy and providing robust, evidence-based assurance in housing. You will hold excellent partnership and stakeholder development skills, adept at working closely with the Housing Regulator, Members and senior stakeholders, and able to translate evolving regulatory and statutory requirements into practical and measurable delivery plans.

Above all, you will lead with integrity and pace, building strong teams and embedding a culture of continuous improvement, championing resident voice, transparency and learning to strengthen trust and outcomes across Bristol’s housing services.
