Role Overview: The Democratic Services Officer delivers high‑quality member support, committee administration, appeals, election and induction processes, and promotes community engagement around the Council's democratic processes. The role operates in a political environment, requiring tact, diplomacy, and accuracy.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide exceptional service delivery, maintaining high standards of quality and quantity of work.
  • Work collaboratively within the function to deliver the best possible outcomes for customers.
  • Maintain and nurture collaborative relationships in all day‑to‑day activity.
  • Continually meet improved levels of service quality.
  • Effectively use digital technologies and innovate within the role.
  • Factor equality and diversity into all daily activities.
  • Incorporate risk management into daily activities.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Educated to an A‑level standard (including English and Maths grade C or above) or equivalent by experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in political or policy environments and Local Government.
  • Good experience of providing administrative support and servicing high‑level meetings, including writing minutes.
  • Excellent ICT skills, including Microsoft applications and expertise with specialist systems; experience of a committee management system is desirable.
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to work to tight deadlines, prioritise work, use initiative, and be self‑motivating.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to manage workload under tight deadlines.
  • Experience working in a sensitive political environment, demonstrating tact and diplomacy.
  • Experience conducting research and working on projects.
