Position: Full Time/Permanent

About the role

As Senior Product Designer on New Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in elevating the end‑to‑end customer experience across all our digital touch‑points; driving reader engagement and subscriber revenue growth. You will work closely with editorial, technology, and marketing teams to deliver innovation and craft exceptional user experiences across our digital platforms. You are a natural collaborator who thrives as part of a supportive and ambitious team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Understand and apply best practices in product and customer experience design.
  • Refine customer journeys, engage in UX research, and analyse user behaviours to maximise how our products impact actions and outcomes.
  • Have a keen eye for user interface aesthetics and enjoy iteratively refining our product UIs based on observation and feedback.
  • Guide the design process from concept to implementation, working closely with design leadership, product managers, editorial teams, developers, and stakeholders on hands‑on UX and UI work across multiple touch‑points; including website, app, newsletters, and other digital products.
  • Collaborate with design leadership and team members to remove roadblocks and guide decision‑making through ambiguity, ensuring choices are grounded in data and UX best practices.
  • Create user personas, journey maps, wireframes, prototypes, and high‑fidelity designs for new features and improvements.
  • Contribute to and maintain a cohesive design system that ensures consistency across our product.

Person Specification

  • Have experience designing, delivering, and iterating on world‑class digital experiences with a global, growth‑oriented mindset.
  • Have a passion for journalism, digital media, and creating impactful user experiences.
  • Thrive in collaborative team environments while also working independently on tasks with ambiguous briefs.
  • Embrace continuous self‑improvement by actively giving and receiving feedback from team members and stakeholders.
  • Address objections and concerns effectively and independently while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Confidently present and recommend design trade‑offs to the design team, senior stakeholders, and leadership; communicating changes in delivery expectations and promoting compromise when necessary.
  • Demonstrate a user‑first mindset with a passion for proactive action and a drive to continually deliver valuable digital experiences.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Product design, preferably in an editorial, publishing or news‑led environment across web and app products.
  • 2+ years of which have been in a senior role or similar level.
