About the Role

This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all engineering and maintenance activities across the site. The successful candidate will ensure the efficient operation of production machinery, facilities, and mechanical systems while driving continuous improvement across the business.

The role combines operational leadership with strong technical involvement, requiring a proactive and practical approach to maintenance, troubleshooting, and engineering development. You will also play an important role in a major re-engineering and product development programme, supporting the introduction of new product lines and manufacturing capabilities. This will involve close collaboration with product development teams, prototype sampling, and the use of CNC and specialist manufacturing technologies (training provided where required).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all engineering and maintenance activities across the manufacturing site
  • Provide hands-on support for mechanical and electrical fault finding and troubleshooting
  • Ensure machinery, equipment, and facilities operate at maximum reliability and efficiency
  • Support and programme industrial equipment, including PLC-controlled machinery
  • Deliver engineering projects including equipment upgrades, process improvements, and facility enhancements
  • Oversee tool room operations and provide technical support to production teams
  • Manage engineering budgets and identify cost-effective improvement opportunities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with OEMs and external suppliers
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles and best practices
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation, procedures, and maintenance records
  • Lead, motivate, and develop the engineering team through training and performance management
  • Promote and maintain high Health & Safety standards across all engineering activities

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for a technically capable and commercially aware engineering professional who is comfortable leading teams while remaining hands-on when needed.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong mechanical engineering background with practical maintenance and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience working with CNC machinery, including operation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis
  • Background in manufacturing or production engineering environments
  • Proven experience leading and developing engineering or maintenance teams
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on efficiency and reliability

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Production Engineering, or equivalent vocational qualification

Package & Benefits

  • Competitive salary up to £45,000 depending on experience
  • Monday to Thursday: 8:00am – 4:45pm
  • Friday: 8:00am – 3:45pm
  • 39-hour working week
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • On-site parking
