This is a hands-on role within a high-precision workshop supporting the manufacture, repair, and maintenance of tooling used in advanced production processes. About the Role
In this role, you will be responsible for producing, refurbishing, and maintaining high-precision tooling to extremely tight tolerances. You will work closely with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to ensure tooling availability, reliability, and performance across manufacturing operations. Your work will directly support production responsiveness, enabling efficient delivery of both standard and custom engineering requirements. This role is based fully on-site in Bridgwater.
Working Hours
- Day shift: 08:00 – 16:30
- Rotating shift pattern:
- 06:00 – 14:00
- 14:00 – 22:00
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture, repair, and refurbish precision tooling to tight tolerances using engineering drawings
- Operate manual and CNC machining equipment, including ProTrak-style CNC milling machines
- Interpret technical drawings and collaborate with design/engineering teams to develop tooling solutions
- Support the introduction of new tooling and modifications for evolving production requirements
- Troubleshoot tooling and manufacturing issues, providing practical engineering solutions
- Contribute to continuous improvement and process optimisation activities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment in line with safety procedures
- Support maintenance activities when required
- Mentor and support junior team members and apprentices where appropriate
Candidate Requirements
- Apprenticeship-trained or equivalent qualification in engineering or toolmaking
- Proven experience in precision machining, toolmaking, or fabrication
- Strong background in high-precision, low-tolerance manufacturing
- Experience with both CNC and manual machining equipment
- Familiarity with ProTrak-type CNC milling systems is highly desirable
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
- Strong problem-solving ability with a practical, hands-on approach
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Able to manage workload effectively and work independently when required
