We are seeking a Product Engineer to join a specialist engineering team responsible for the design, development, and support of high-performance sealing and precision mechanical components used in demanding industrial applications.
The role combines product design, application engineering, and technical support across the full product lifecycle — from initial customer requirements through to production release and ongoing product improvement. You will work closely with internal engineering, manufacturing, quality, and commercial teams, as well as occasionally engaging with customers to support technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop engineering solutions for customer application requirements involving sealing and precision components
- Produce manufacturing and detailed engineering drawings (including GD&T)
- Support new product introduction (NPI) from concept through to production
- Provide technical support to sales and application engineering teams
- Translate customer requirements into practical and manufacturable designs
- Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations on in-service products
- Support validation and testing activities with internal test teams
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and engineering proposals
- Assist in product selection for complex application environments
- Work closely with manufacturing to resolve design and production issues
- Ensure designs meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements
- Deliver technical input and training to internal stakeholders
- Participate in customer technical discussions and occasional site visits
- Support continuous improvement of product designs and processes
- Maintain and update existing product designs throughout lifecycle
Requirements
We are looking for a degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer (or equivalent) with experience in product design or application engineering within a mechanical or industrial environment. You should have strong CAD capability (Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo or similar) and be confident producing detailed engineering drawings. A solid understanding of mechanical principles such as pressure, friction, wear, and material behaviour is essential.
You will ideally have experience working with engineered mechanical components such as seals, rotating equipment, or precision assemblies, along with a structured problem-solving approach and the ability to work across multiple engineering functions. Strong communication skills are important, as the role involves collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with sealing systems or precision mechanical components
- Exposure to industries such as oil & gas, aerospace, automotive, or industrial equipment
- Experience in failure analysis or product testing environments
- Familiarity with FEA or simulation tools (e.g. Abaqus or similar)
- Experience supporting new product introduction or product lifecycle engineering
Additional Information
The role offers occasional travel within the UK and internationally in support of engineering and customer activities. It sits within a technically advanced product development environment focused on high-performance engineered solutions.
