Your opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel (EMEA) based in the UK with deep SaaS commercial transaction experience to join our collaborative, forward-thinking legal team. At New Relic, legal isn’t just a support function; you will sit directly at the deal table, driving revenue growth, optimising customer and partner relationships, and scaling our SaaS business. You will enjoy direct visibility, genuine autonomy, and the platform to curate your own career trajectory within a globally dispersed team. If you thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoy solving complex commercial challenges, and want to directly power our go-to-market strategy, this is the role for you.
What you'll do:
- Structure & Close SaaS Deals: Draft, review, and negotiate complex SaaS agreements, including data processing addenda and security terms in direct support of EMEA go-to-market efforts.
- Empower Sales Teams: Coach and advise regional sales teams on SaaS deal structure, negotiation tactics, and customer dispute resolution to accelerate sales velocity.
- Scale Channel Partnerships: Work closely with Partner business teams to structure, negotiate, and expand business via resellers, MSPs, distributors, and global system integrators.
- Lead Privacy & Regulatory Strategy: Collaborate with Privacy Legal to embed practical risk-tolerance strategies and standardise commercial contract responses under global privacy regimes (GDPR, DORA, etc.).
- Build Scalable Infrastructure: Own, refine, and modernise SaaS agreement templates, negotiation playbooks, and contract escalation workflows to ensure legal scales alongside business growth.
- Serve as a Trusted Advisor: Provide pragmatic, risk-aware legal guidance across cross-functional partners, including Marketing, Product, Finance, and Contract Managers, aligning legal strategy with our consumption-based model, monetisation, and product-led growth (PLG) goals.
This role requires Mandatory SaaS Commercial Expertise:
- Substantial experience drafting and negotiating complex SaaS commercial contracts, partner frameworks, and cloud technology agreements with a solid knowledge of revenue recognition principles.
- Educational & Qualification Background (UK): Qualified to practice law and in good standing with the relevant professional regulatory body (e.g., state bar, Solicitors Regulation Authority, or equivalent) in your jurisdiction of residence.
- Privacy & Security Fluency: Solid hands-on knowledge of data privacy, artificial intelligence, security topics, and global compliance frameworks within commercial SaaS transactions.
- GTM & Sales Alignment: Proactive, strategic approach to working directly alongside enterprise sales teams to drive deal execution across the EMEA region.
- Autonomy & Resilience: Proven ability to manage competing deliverables, set clear boundaries, prioritise under deadlines, and operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative Communication: Outstanding interpersonal skills with a track record of building trust across functions, regions, and executive levels.
Bonus points if you have:
- In-house legal experience.
- Familiarity with consumption-based in SaaS.
- Direct experience handling GSI/Reseller partner agreements and advising marketing teams.
- An eagerness to leverage AI, with a deep understanding of AI products, LLMs and the product lifecycle.
- Privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP/E) or deep familiarity with the EU AI Act and DORA.
