Role Overview: Working as part of a Clinical multi-disciplinary team to provide an Occupational Therapy service primarily within the Learning Disabilities Service. You will undertake all aspects of Occupational Therapy clinical duties, working within the ethical framework provided by the rules of professional conduct. For the role you will work collaboratively with all New Reflexions services, promoting the well-being and best interests of the young people.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing assessment of independence and functional skills for young people with diverse presentations to identify support needs.
  • Develop and support the delivery of the whole school and individualised supportive strategies.
  • To be professionally responsible for ongoing evaluation and monitoring of needs, contribution to the development of multi-agency intervention plans, including providing staff training and support and direct intervention where appropriate.
  • To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing.
  • To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive client intervention records in line with the appropriate profession.
  • To support young people where appropriate in contributing to their own intervention plans.
  • Use a range of tools to support care and education staff to interact effectively with young people to progress support programmes/strategies.
  • This will include young people who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating (and may require formulating combined plans with the Speech and Language therapist).
  • Embed therapeutic practices within the curriculum team and help to develop specialist educational plans and programmes where needed.
  • To support colleagues through coaching and training to develop their own practice.

You Should Be Able To Demonstrate Or Possess:

  • Hold a Degree or Masters qualification in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC & RCOT (Royal College of Occupational Therapy) professional membership.
  • Experience of supporting children and young people with behavioural difficulties either in an education or care/residential setting.
  • Experience supporting people with a learning disability.
  • Experience of managing a full clinical caseload independently.

Desirable:

  • Have 2 years post qualifying experience within the field of learning disabilities and autism.
  • A minimum of L3 Sensory Integration Training.

This role is based at our Head Office in Cruckton, Shrewsbury but may involve some travel to our other sites. The post holder has the responsibility to adhere to our Safeguarding and Child Protection Procedure. Therefore, as this post is a regulated activity and/or on a regulated site the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS, and our safer recruitment process.
