Working as part of a Clinical multi‑disciplinary team to provide an Occupational Therapy service primarily within the Learning Disabilities Service at our Head Office in Cruckton, Shrewsbury (travel to other sites may be required).

The role involves all aspects of Occupational Therapy clinical duties, working within the ethical framework of professional conduct and safeguarding procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive assessment of independence and functional skills for young people with diverse presentations and promote the well‑being and best interests of the young people.
  • Develop and support the delivery of whole‑school and individualised supportive strategies.
  • Maintain ongoing evaluation and monitoring of needs, contributing to multi‑agency intervention plans and providing staff training and support.
  • Maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in line with professional requirements.
  • Support young people in contributing to their own intervention plans where appropriate.
  • Use a range of tools to support care and education staff to interact effectively with young people and progress support programmes.
  • Embed therapeutic practices within the curriculum team and help develop specialist educational plans and programmes.
  • Provide coaching and training to colleagues to develop their own practice.
  • Adhere to safeguarding and child protection procedures and complete enhanced DBS checks.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Masters qualification in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC & RCOT (Royal College of Occupational Therapy) professional membership.
  • Experience supporting children and young people with behavioural difficulties in an educational or residential setting.
  • Experience supporting individuals with a learning disability.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a full clinical caseload independently.

Desirable

  • At least 2 years post‑qualifying experience within the field of learning disabilities and autism.
  • Minimum of L3 Sensory Integration Training.
