Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver handsâon, engaging Construction sessions that help young people explore creative techniques, build portfolios, and develop skills that matter.
- Work 1:1 and in small groups to support learners at different levels of confidence and ability; collaborate with your team on scheme of work and lesson planning.
- Encourage attendance, routine, and personal accountability in learners.
- Support the development of learners' functional skills in Maths and English as part of their wider learning journey.
- Keep accurate records of progress, behaviour, and engagement.
- Use a traumaâinformed, relational approach to behaviour management, helping learners feel safe, respected and understood.
- Reflect on your own practice and contribute to team development and training.
- Work alongside support services, parents/carers and external agencies where relevant to promote learner success.
About the role
Weâre looking for a Construction Multiskills Tutor who can engage and motivate young people through practical, handsâon learning. Many of our learners thrive with kinaesthetic, âlearning by doingâ approachesâespecially in construction, where teamwork, problemâsolving, and seeing tangible results can build both skills and confidence. Ideally, youâll have experience working in construction trades or training others in practical skills, but we also know there are exceptional candidates who havenât tutored before but have the right mindset and enthusiasm to excel. If youâre passionate about passing on your practical knowledge and want a meaningful career change, this could be the ideal opportunity. Weâll provide the training and support you need to step into the role. Many of our learners have complex needs, including autism, ADHD, anxiety, attachment disorders, and socialâemotional challenges, so patience, empathy, and adaptability are essential. At NMT, no two days are the same. Youâll lead practical construction sessions in areas like carpentry, tiling, decorating, and basic plumbing, helping young people develop employability skills, teamwork, and resilience along the way. Managing behaviour positively is a key part of this role, and youâll be part of a dynamic, inclusive team that is committed to making a real difference.
Qualifications
- Ideally a Level 3 Award in Education & Training and preferably a Certificate of Higher Education, but training can be provided to the right candidate without these qualifications.
- IOSH Working Safely Qualification.
- Experience in education, including Scheme of Work and Lesson Plan development.
- Strong conflict management and resolution skills.
- Excellent communication skills to inspire and motivate young people.
- A teamâoriented and proactive attitude, with the ability to work independently.
- Proven relationshipâbuilding skills with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

About New Meaning Training
New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are a postâ16 training and education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 16-25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living. This academic year NMT has 300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire. Many of these learners are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings. Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as âToolshed.â Ten years on, NMT continues to grow. In Berkshire weâre fortunate enough to have expanded into a second building in Reading for our construction learners. We have a range of learning programmes: Construction Multiâskills, Creative Art & Design, Sports, Boost Workskills, and Achieve Lifeskills. All incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, along with tutorials and enrichment sessions to support our wellârounded approach. We also provide a âTransition Supportâ programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a learning setting. NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.
