Introduction
New Meaning Training – formerly known as Toolshed – is turning 10 this July.
For a decade, we’ve helped young people who’ve struggled in mainstream education build skills, confidence, and futures through practical, hands-on training. You may have known us as Toolshed — especially if you’re local to High Wycombe — and now, under the name New Meaning Training , we’re proud to still be doing the same vital work: supporting young people who need a leg up.
As we mark this milestone, we’re looking for someone to lead our Construction Multiskills team in High Wycombe. This role is ideal for someone who remembers what it felt like to first step into the construction world — the nerves, the excitement, the uncertainty — and wants to now give that same chance to others.
You might have worked on-site for years and want to do something more meaningful with your experience. Or perhaps your background is in youth work, education or mentoring, and you’re confident with DIY but even more confident connecting with young people who’ve been told they can’t succeed.
Either way, we’re looking for someone who’s a natural leader, who understands how to build trust with young people, and who values the power of practical learning. If you bring the right mindset, we’ll provide the training.
This is a chance to lead a small team, shape a centre, and most importantly, change lives — one young person at a time.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the team to plan and review schemes of work and lesson plans
- Lead learner onboarding, including interviews and inductions
- Manage and support a team, including regular 1:1s and development planning
- Deliver and evaluate high-quality, learner-focused sessions
- Maintain accurate learner records and monitor progress
- Apply NMT’s safeguarding, behaviour, and health & safety policies consistently
- Keep up to date with legislative changes and attend relevant training
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Support learners in line with NMT’s Loving Care Approach
- Travel independently between sites (Full UK Driving Licence and business-insured vehicle required)
You Will Have
Experience (at least two of the following):
- Team leadership or supervisory experience
- Education sector experience
- Teaching or tutoring experience
- Construction industry knowledge
Qualifications and Training
(To be completed within 3 months unless already held)
- Level 3 Award in Education & Training
- Safeguarding Children (Advanced – Level 2), PREVENT Duty, Mental Health Awareness
- IOSH Working Safely (Construction staff)
- Enhanced DBS check (mandatory)
Skills and Competencies
- Confident use of Microsoft 365
- Strong team management and conflict resolution skills
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Experience working independently, including lone and remote working
- Ability to create and review educational resources
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Understanding of varied learning styles and behaviour triggers
- Alignment with NMT’s Loving Care Approach: trauma-informed, supportive, inquisitive, and learner-focused
- Commitment to continuous professional development through coaching and training
About us
New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are an alternative education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 15-25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, around 300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire will join one of our programmes. Many of these students are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings.
Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as “Toolshed.” Ten years on, NMT continues to grow, with new centres opening in Nuneaton and Milton Keynes in September 2025.
We have a range of programmes at New Meaning Training Bucks & Herts: Construction Multiskills, Motor Mechanics, Sports, Hair & Beauty, Computing, Childcare, Catering and Boost Workskills. Not all programmes are available at every location, but all incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, along with tutorials to support our well-rounded approach. We also provide a ‘Transition Support’ programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a learning setting.
NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.
