Department Overview
Buying combines creative inspiration with commercial planning to deliver the best ranges for our customers. Product is central to our work, from developing standout prints and must-have coats to the season’s ‘It’ bags. Always prioritizing the customer, we collaborate with suppliers both in the UK and internationally to offer fashionable products at great prices and rapid turnaround. The buying environment is fast-paced, dynamic, and every day presents new challenges.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Planning
- Maintain awareness of strategy at group and department levels
- Understand and align with the Brand Vision
- Manage daily and weekly tasks following Ways Of Working (WOW)
- Prepare for departmental meetings
- Support the buying team with data entry into planning tools
- Buying
- Raise purchase orders
- Adhere to the Critical Path to meet deadlines
- Address issues with orders internally and externally
- Proactively find solutions to challenges
- Coordinate barcode processes
- Maintain purchase orders within relevant systems
- Assist with supplier slippage management
- Implement order amendments under guidance from the B&M team
- Contribute to weekly team updates to support commitments
- Sample Management
- Process received samples
- Label, log, organize, and file samples
- Prepare samples for meetings
- Maintain the department’s range and samples
- Manage press sample processes to maximize department offerings
- Ensure production samples arrive in time for online pre-shoots
- Keep imagery of samples up to date
- Prepare samples for 3PE partner meetings
- Trading
- Develop a basic understanding of trade reports
- Learn trade decision processes
- Attend Group Trade meetings
- Product Awareness
- Understand the New Look customer profile
- Familiarize with customer insights and market share data
- Contribute to trend and competitor analysis, making recommendations for development
- Monitor competitors’ product ranges
- Report on store visits and competitor shops
Technical Knowledge & Experience
- Knowledge of fashion trends and high street offerings
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Effective communication skills
- Passion for product
- Experience in fashion/retail or as a buying admin assistant
- Fashion qualification or relevant degree is desirable
