THE ROLE: The role will sit in our Technology function in our Engineering Team whose primary focus is to develop the digital and cloud capability for New Look. The team is brand new and currently in the process of being set-up. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who wants to be part of something right at the start and be involved in creating an innovative team culture. This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual with a strong work ethic. As a Senior Software Engineer (DevOps) you will be a key player in the Engineering team.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Engineering Leadership & Delivery: Plan, prioritise and deliver engineering tasks for yourself and others, taking accountability for technical outcomes and delivery timelines. Drive the development of secure, reliable and high-quality code, automation and infrastructure. Understand business and technical problems, and design, build, test and deploy solutions to address them. Own technical delivery for assigned initiatives, ensuring outcomes meet functional and non-functional requirements.
- Platform, Cloud and Pipeline Engineering: Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, test automation frameworks and deployment strategies. Engineer scalable cloud environments and infrastructure-as-code to support development, testing and production workloads. Ensure delivery pipelines are automated, resilient and compliant with governance and security standards. Conduct cloud readiness assessments and provide guidance on cloud architecture and migration strategies. Optimise cloud usage and costs, applying FinOps principles and cost governance controls.
- Quality, Security and Reliability: Champion high engineering standards, automation-first delivery and quality-by-design practices. Embed DevSecOps practices including security scanning, policy enforcement and vulnerability management into pipelines. Promote Test Driven Development (TDD), automated testing and continuous quality practices. Ensure solutions meet availability, performance, resilience and compliance requirements.
- Architecture & Technical Strategy: Own and contribute to technical strategy, architecture decisions and engineering standards. Participate in solution architecture discussions and influence platform and tooling direction. Provide technical oversight and guidance to delivery teams, including effort estimation and design reviews.
- Leadership, Coaching and Governance: Provide technical leadership, mentoring and coaching to engineers and peers. Perform code, design and pipeline reviews to ensure best practices and consistency. Act as a steward of engineering standards, tooling and ways of working across teams. Advocate DevOps culture, continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Communicate clearly and professionally with engineers, product teams, business stakeholders and vendors. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure aligned delivery and shared ownership of outcomes.
- Delivery & Professionalism: Deliver new capabilities and platform enhancements with high quality and minimal defects. Take ownership of commitments and follow through on individual and team deliverables. Foster a collaborative and inclusive engineering culture across the organisation.
WHO YOU ARE: Must have demonstrable proficiency and prior experience with the following (cloud) platforms and services: Terraform, Kubernetes, Azure. Demonstrable proficiency and prior experience in working with development lifecycle and source control systems, preferably git, Gitlab and Jira. Demonstrable proficiency and prior experience in Agile with JIRA and team collaboration. Demonstrable proficiency and prior experience in security minded designs, implementations and integrations. Preferable prior experience in the following technologies: React/Next.js, Typescript, GraphQL, Node/NestJS. Preferable experience with automated testing including integration tests. Proven team player with a can-do mentality. Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or any other relevant field. 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or Senior Software Engineer. Experience of working in Retail would be advantageous but is not a prerequisite. Capability in managing people, providing leadership required such as coaching, mentoring setting objectives and carrying out performance reviews. Experience of supervising junior resource. Evidence of developing best practice, role modelling and embedding this into the wider engineering team.
Additional expectations: May be required to work occasionally in addition to the standard 9-5 working hours to troubleshoot issues with live applications. Experience of working within squads and collaborating with internal stakeholders to translate business requirements to technical requirements and solutions.
