Position Summary

The School of Applied Engineering and Technology (SAET) of the Newark College of Engineering at NJIT is searching for a University Lecturer for its Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program in the Built Environment Division (SBED). The candidate will teach primarily undergraduate courses in CIM, and may include both lower and upper level as well as lab courses. The ideal candidate will have a broad set of built environment skills including project management, estimating, and scheduling. In addition, the preferred candidate would have a professional background in concrete: mixture design, processing, applications, repair, delivery, and construction methods. The individual should be willing to work with colleagues to develop new teaching approaches, curriculum, and experiential opportunities in the NJIT Makerspace. S/he will teach in accordance with the policies and standards of the department and the direction of the Chairperson. In addition, although this is primarily a teaching position, the candidate may also be involved in other activities in accordance with the terms of the current collective bargaining agreement.

Essential Functions

• Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
• Participate in course, program, and experiential learning development as required along with the formal assessment of student performance.
• Participate in student events and external outreach activities as required.
• Participate in program accreditation activities.
• Participate in constituent meetings with the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB).
• Initiative: Independently takes action to influence events. Offers own ideas for improvement to promote the goals of the course and curriculum. Seeks feedback from appropriate persons on effects of actions. Identifies a problem, obstacle or opportunity and takes action, including collaborating with colleagues, to address current or future problems or opportunities, within the scope of position as authorized.
• Innovative Thinking: An effort to improve performance by doing new things. It can include the introduction of an innovative procedure not currently used, but known elsewhere. It can also include the development of techniques and methods, the ability to go beyond the conventional, and a willingness to try out different solutions. At the higher levels, it is the ability to champion innovation and encourage new ideas from colleagues and students.
• Flexibility/Adaptability: Recognizes that the environment in which one functions may be constantly changing and adjusts his/her own approach and behavior accordingly. • Leadership: Develops and uses effective strategies and interpersonal styles to influence and guide others toward the accomplishment of identified objectives and goals.
• Striving to Excellence: Encourages in students the desire to achieve excellence, both in technical and professional areas. Pursue teaching with technical rigor and professional enthusiasm.
• Teaching Pedagogy/Tools: Recognizes different learning styles of students and designs lecturers accordingly to help students with diverse styles, integrates various computation/modeling tools and software as appropriate, and incorporate active-learning strategies and project-based learning.

Pre-Requisite Qualifications

• Candidates with a minimum of a M.S. in Engineering or related field together with strong industrial experience will be seriously considered.
• A minimum of two years teaching experience in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong preference will be given to applicants with industrial experience, Professional Engineering licensure, and a Ph.D. in Engineering or related field.
