About the Role

The role of a Health Care Support Worker is to provide support to individuals who are vulnerable such as the elderly, those with mental health issues, learning disabilities, or injuries who live in their own homes or supported living units to ensure their needs are catered for and empower positivity and growth. As a Senior Healthcare Support Worker, you will have excellent communication skills; the ability to build a positive rapport with Service Users you support with challenging behaviours and needs; and an understanding of how to help them develop the skills and confidence to live independently.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support clients to develop resilience and build mental, physical, emotional, and social well-being in a safe, caring, and nurturing environment.
  • Support to prepare and serve food, assist some service users in feeding, and prepare snacks and hot drinks.
  • Encourage clients to participate in social and recreational activities.
  • Assist service users in washing, dressing, toiletry activities, and general mobility.
  • Support shopping tasks and general household activities such as meal preparation, laundry, and keeping the home tidy to encourage the participation of Service Users in these tasks to help prepare them for independent living.
  • Observe, monitor, and record clients’ physical and emotional well-being, and promptly report any changes to senior staff.
  • Support the service user in their own homes or supported living units.
  • Communicate effectively with social workers and all other relevant professionals when supporting the service users.
  • Carry out regular health and safety checks in the environment the service user lives.
  • Assist with the safe lifting, transferring, repositioning, and movement of clients.

Qualities and Experience

  • Excellent knowledge of safeguarding in relation to Service Users.
  • Relevant experience of working with vulnerable individuals in housing, care services, community development, or a related field is desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good written communication skills for effective correspondence and report writing.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team structure.
  • Ability to understand and follow policies and procedures.
  • Being a driver is essential.
  • Knowledge of English Language minimum Level B1 in listening, reading, writing, and speaking (Prove your English language with Secure English Language Test (SELT)).
