Would you like to be involved in keeping our streets clean? We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our Street & Cleansing Section based at our Marsh Lane depot in Lymington. If you want to join our team delivering high quality services for the residents, businesses and tourists of the New Forest, this is a great opportunity working across the forest and coastal areas based within the New Forest.

Do you enjoy working outside? This role includes street cleaning operations around Hythe using a non-motorised barrow, litter picking, bin emptying, fly-tip collection and any work-based paperwork or system relating to the role. We are transitioning to Bartec, a tablet or phone-based work system to receive work/jobs and sign them off.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out a variety of street cleansing duties, including planned and additional works, collection of fly-tipped waste, servicing of bins and other duties related to the street scene service as required.
  • Carry out building cleaning or clearance operations as part of street cleansing activities.
  • Support wider StreetScene operations as needed, individually or as part of a team, including litter picking, fly tipping and litter clearance, graffiti removal, and ensuring cemetery and public space bins are empty and well maintained.
  • Cleansing & maintenance of public conveniences and other buildings; provide emergency response/snow clearance and any Void works within the New Forest.
  • Handle a high degree of physical effort, including lifting heavy objects and long periods of walking.
  • Occasionally be based from Hardley Depot for general Streetscene works across the district as required by operational needs.

About you

You should possess a valid UK driving licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles and to drive a Council vehicle (minimum 3.5 tonnes, up to 7.5 tonnes). CPC would be beneficial. You would be responsible for the vehicle. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to bring this to interview. Due to the physical nature of the role, you should have a good level of physical fitness as well as good customer care skills and experience dealing with members of the public, preferably in a frontline service environment.

What’s in it for you?

  • £24,817 – £25,404 per annum
  • 23 days leave plus an additional 5 days for 5 years’ continuous service
  • Local Government pension scheme and AVC contribution
  • Payment of professional or registration fees where required
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Wide range of employee discounts at high street retailers, including supermarkets, stores and restaurants
  • Cycle to Work scheme which could save you around 40 percent on cycles and accessories
