We have an exciting opportunity for a Coastal Engineer to join our Coastal Service. The post holder will support delivery of the Council’s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) services across a varied and challenging coastline.

Responsibilities

  • The role includes planning, design, procurement and supervision to deliver the Council’s coastal engineering maintenance works programme.
  • The post holder will act as the main point of contact for minor in‑house coastal maintenance undertaken by the NFDC Engineering Works team.
  • Contribute to the coastal capital programme and provide technical support across the Coastal Service.

Qualifications

  • Solid experience working in the coastal environment and a good understanding of FCERM activities and procedures.
  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant environmental or engineering discipline.
  • Sound contract‑management knowledge, problem‑solving approach and strong IT skills including AutoCAD and GIS.
  • Accurate record‑keeping, effective communication, good interpersonal skills and proven stakeholder engagement.
  • Suitable experience of coastal engineering maintenance works, including site supervision (required).
  • Experience of Environment Agency business‑case development and partnership investment strategies (desirable).
