New England Seafood International (NESI) was established in 1991 and is an importer and processor of premium fresh and frozen sustainable fish and seafood. NESI employs circa 850 people across three sites in the UK and imports a wide range of wild and farmed fish and shellfish from all around the world. We are part of the Sealaska Corporation, an Alaska Native corporation formed in 1971 and which is owned by 26,000 Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian shareholders, who are all bloodline descendants of the first settlers to the Americas.

Scope and purpose of the role

The Stores & Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in supporting the engineering and production teams within a food manufacturing environment. This position ensures that all engineering components, consumables, and tools are stored, issued, and replenished in line with food safety standards and site procedures. The role combines stores management with hands-on engineering support to help maintain production uptime and ensure compliance with strict hygiene, traceability, and audit standards.

What Is This Role Accountable For

  • Receive and inspect engineering parts and consumables, ensuring they meet food-industry compliance and specification requirements.
  • Store materials safely and in accordance with hygiene protocols.
  • Issue parts and tools to engineers while maintaining accurate traceability records.
  • Update CMMS / stock control systems daily to reflect movements, consumption, and replenishments.
  • Conduct daily checks on critical spares (motors, bearings, belts, sensors, etc.) to reduce production downtime.
  • Continue to expand and improve the stores.
  • Prepare engineering kits for planned maintenance and routine inspections.
  • Assist engineers with locating, retrieving, or sourcing specialist parts during breakdowns.
  • Support basic engineering tasks such as assembling kits, overhauls, simple repairs, or cleaning components.
  • Provide back up on factory floor breakdowns in the case of extreme machinery failure/ illness in the department.

What experiences, knowledge and capabilities do I need to demonstrate?

  • Experience working in a food manufacturing or FMCG environment (strong advantage).
  • NVQ 3 in an engineering discipline.
  • Working knowledge of engineering components (bearings, sensors, motors, pneumatics, conveyors, etc.).
  • Experience with CMMS stocking systems.
  • Understanding of food safety requirements (BRC, HACCP, allergen controls).
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure, especially during breakdown situations.
  • Practical, hands-on mindset with willingness to support the engineering team.
