New England Seafood International (NESI) was established in 1991 and is an importer and processor of premium fresh and frozen sustainable fish and seafood. NESI employs circa 850 people across three sites in the UK and imports a wide range of wild and farmed fish and shellfish from all around the world. Reporting to: Site HR Manager
Location: 48 Cox Lane, Chessington, KT9 1TW
Salary: up to £30,000 per annum, dependent on experience + benefits
Working pattern: Monday–Friday, 8:00–17:00 (40 hours). Some flexibility required to support a 24/7 operation.
About the Role
As an HR Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting the site’s day-to-day people operations across the full employee lifecycle. Acting as the first point of contact for HR on site, you will provide practical, solutions-focused support to colleagues and managers in a fast-paced FMCG environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional looking to build strong generalist experience, gain exposure to employee relations, recruitment and site-wide HR initiatives, and work closely with operational leaders. You will be fully embedded in the site, contributing to people-focused decisions that directly impact performance and engagement. Reporting to the Site HR Manager, you will work alongside two HR Advisors, gaining hands-on experience across a broad HR remit while developing the skills required to progress your HR career.
Key Responsibilities
- HR Operations & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and compliant employee records on the HRIS
- Coordinate end-to-end employee lifecycle activity, including probations, contractual changes, internal moves and leavers
- Daily monitoring of time and attendance data, escalating anomalies and compliance risks to line managers and HR Advisors
- Track working time, promptly escalating non-compliance, supporting investigations into any breaches
- Monitor the annual leave process ensuring compliance with usage, and all HRIS records are up to date
- Support monthly payroll processing, ensuring accurate updates to the HRIS and resolving payroll queries
- Monitoring Right to Work compliance, keeping accurate records and holding right to work meetings where necessary
- Supporting the general operation of the site by monitoring stationery and PPE levels, placing orders when required
- Maintaining accurate records of staff lockers and carrying out weekly locker searches
- Attend operational Tier meetings and contribute to ongoing people initiatives
- Recruitment & Onboarding
- Support the full recruitment process, from drafting job descriptions through to interviewing and candidate assessment
- Prepare and issue offer letters, contracts and onboarding documentation
- Deliver a positive onboarding experience, coordinating inductions, equipment, PPE and lockers for new starters
- Holding weekly agency site tours, welcoming new workers to the business and maintain supporting documentation for compliance
- Employee Relations Support
- Record absence and lateness, identifying trends and escalating repeat cases appropriately
- Support managers with return-to-work processes and documentation
- Assist with investigations and absence/lateness reviews by coordinating meetings, gathering statements and maintaining case records
- Training & Engagement
- Deliver bite-size training sessions to operational leaders on core HR processes
- Support the Site Engagement Forum (SEF), attending meetings and tracking agreed actions
- Contribute to HR projects and site initiatives that improve consistency, engagement and compliance
- Carry out regular staff surveys (including new starters, agency workers and exit interviews), analysing trends and sharing recommendations to the wider HR team
Experience Required
- Minimum 1 year’s HR generalist or coordination experience
- Working knowledge of UK employment law
- Strong administrative and organisational skills are paramount
- Self-starter, able to manage a wide variety of tasks simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong IT skills, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook
- CIPD Level 3 qualified (or working towards)
- Experience within FMCG, manufacturing or a high-volume environment
- Experience using HRIS and/or time & attendance systems
