About The Role
As we grow our capabilities GrayBar are seeking a motivated and technically minded Trainee Railway Electrical Technical Sales Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a keen interest in engineering and in particular Railways, who is interested in combining technical expertise with a commercial customer‑facing career. You will receive full structured training in railway electrical systems, product knowledge, and sales processes while supporting senior engineers and sales managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Support & Learning
- Learn and develop a strong understanding of railway points heating systems, Signalling Systems, standards and applications.
- Learn and support the preparation of technical proposals, quotations, and specifications for customers.
- Learn and assist in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and customer requirements.
- Learn and participate in product training sessions, site visits, and technical workshops.
- Sales & Client Interaction training
- Learn and work alongside senior sales engineers to manage customer accounts and build client relationships.
- Learn and support the team in identifying customer needs and recommending appropriate technical solutions.
- Learn and assist in preparing presentations and demonstrations for clients, consultants, and rail operators.
- Learn and support lead generation, tender preparation, and market research activities.
- Project Coordination
- Learn and help coordinate with engineering, procurement, and project delivery teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Learn and track progress of quotations, orders, and customer enquiries.
- Learn and assist in the managing of documentation and compliance with railway industry regulations and standards.
About you
Essential/Desirable Criteria
- A strong interest in railways including signalling, and electrical engineering.
- College/University or similar related qualifications (though not essential).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- A willingness to learn, ask questions, and participate in hands‑on technical training.
- Competent with Microsoft Office tools.
- Previous internship or work placement in an engineering or sales role (though not essential would be advantageous).
- Experience in reading electrical diagrams or using CAD software (though not essential – training will be provided).
- Hold a full UK driving licence.
