Job Description
New Directions Education are recruiting a pool of compassionate, skilled and dedicated Medical Needs Teaching Assistants to support learners across a range of SEND settings in Wakefield.
This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about helping young people with complex and medical needs to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
We are looking for people who are
- Experienced in supporting pupils with medical or complex health needs.
- Confident in assisting with personal care and following individual healthcare plans.
- Knowledgeable in trauma-informed approaches and therapeutic behaviour support.
- Understanding of a range of SEND needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition, Speech, Language and Communication Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health.

As a Medical Needs Teaching Assistant, your working day will involve
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for learners with a range of medical and additional needs.
- Assist in the development and delivery of individual EHCP’s.
- Sensory, creative classroom sessions.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students, families, and staff teams.
- Ensure the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every learner under your care.
