New Directions are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in South Manchester. This is a full-time role starting in September 2026 and will continue on a long-term basis, supporting a Year 3 class.

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant with previous experience working with children who is passionate about helping pupils develop both academically and socially. School-based experience is desirable but not essential, as we welcome applicants with experience gained through childcare, youth work, sports coaching, tutoring, holiday clubs or similar child-focused settings.

The Role

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons within a Year 3 classroom
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils achieve their learning goals
  • Encourage pupils’ confidence, independence and positive behaviour
  • Help to create a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment
  • Support pupils with varying learning needs to access the curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and parents to promote pupil progress and wellbeing

The Candidate

  • Previous experience working with children is essential
  • Experience within a primary school is desirable but not essential
  • A positive, patient and enthusiastic approach to supporting children’s learning
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Teaching Assistant qualifications are desirable but not essential
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
