About the Role
We are seeking adaptable, confident, and enthusiastic IT Teachers to work on a supply basis across a range of secondary schools in Harrogate. This flexible role is ideal for teachers who enjoy variety, want control of their schedule, or are looking to gain experience in different school environments.
You will deliver pre‑planned IT and Computing lessons, support pupils in developing digital skills, and maintain a positive classroom environment — without the additional workload of planning, marking (in short-term roles), or data responsibilities.
Role Responsibilities
- Deliver pre‑prepared IT and Computing lessons across KS3–KS4 (KS5 desirable for some schools)
- Teach key IT topics such as: digital literacy, online safety, software applications, basic coding, networks, and hardware
- Confidently manage classes in the absence of the usual teacher
- Quickly adapt to varying school routines, policies, and student needs
Behaviour & Classroom Management
- Maintain a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment
- Use school behaviour policies effectively and consistently
- Build positive relationships with students while maintaining boundaries
Assessment & Reporting
- Minimal marking required (unless in longer-term roles)
- Ensure students remain on task and complete assigned work
Person Specification
- Essential
- QTS/QTLS or a recognised teaching qualification
- Strong IT subject knowledge
- Confident behaviour management and ability to engage students
- Flexibility and a professional, reliable attitude
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
- Desirable
- Experience teaching GCSE Computer Science or ICT
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, HTML/CSS, Scratch
- Experience working across different schools or settings
- Ability to offer extracurricular digital activities if in a longer-term placement
