Job Description
New Directions are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Altrincham.
This is a full-time role starting in September 2026 for the Autumn Term initially, with the potential for the position to be extended.
The successful candidate will work within Key Stage 1, providing classroom support alongside delivering targeted interventions to help pupils achieve their full potential.
The role will involve leading phonics sessions, supporting early reading, writing and numeracy interventions, and working with small groups and individual pupils to close learning gaps and build confidence.
The Role
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons within a Key Stage 1 classroom
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils achieve their learning goals
- Assist with phonics, early reading, writing and numeracy activities
- Encourage pupils’ confidence, independence and positive behaviour
- Help create a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and parents to support pupil progress and wellbeing
- The Candidate
- Previous experience working with children is essential, ideally within a primary school setting
- Experience supporting pupils within Key Stage 1 is desirable
- A positive, patient and enthusiastic approach to supporting children’s learning
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
