We are seeking confident, reliable Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools across Shropshire. You will supervise classes during teacher absence and ensure students remain engaged with pre-set work in a positive learning environment. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, youth workers, sports coaches, or anyone considering a future career in teaching. Working as a Cover Supervisor can be a very rewarding but very demanding role. Schools may wish to employ staff for cover supervision but on occasions where they are not needed for cover, they might also be released to provide additional support to Teachers in classrooms, or to carry out administrative tasks.

Ideally, candidates will be required to:

  • Develop curricular knowledge in line with the school requirements
  • Apply the school’s behaviour management policy and report any difficulties to the class Teacher/senior leadership team
  • Set homework in line with the classroom Teacher requirements
  • Provide homework under the guidance of the class Teacher
  • Administer class tests if requested
  • Supervise the work of the Teaching Assistant, providing support if required
  • Abide by and work towards all policies within the school, e.g. behaviour management, health and safety, equal opportunities
  • Carry out pre-prepared exercises in the short term absence of the class Teacher
  • Ensure students remain on task through classroom activities
