New Directions Education is seeking dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to support learners with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges in specialist school settings across Leeds. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children who need that extra support to thrive.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have a strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and therapeutic behaviour support strategies.
  • Are trained in Team-Teach or other positive behaviour management techniques.
  • Display a calm, patient, and empathetic approach to working with young learners.
  • Have strong behaviour management skills and are able to support children in regulating their emotions.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting children who experience SEMH challenges, working alongside class teachers to ensure that all learners are fully included and engaged in their education. You will be providing tailored, individualised support both in and out of the classroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Offering 1:1 and small group support to children with SEMH needs, helping them to engage with learning and manage their emotions.
  • Assisting the class teacher in creating a positive and structured learning environment that is nurturing and inclusive.
  • Promoting emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and improving engagement in the classroom.
  • Building trusting relationships with students, supporting their wellbeing and development.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals to deliver the best possible outcomes for students.
