New Directions are looking for a friendly, committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and welcoming team at a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities school in Trafford. This is a full-time role supporting pupils with a range of additional needs. We are looking for someone who is patient, adaptable and confident in helping children and young people feel safe, supported and able to access learning. This role is due to start in May 2026 and will continue for the rest of the academic year. This role may lead to a permanent opportunity for the right person.
The Role
- Support the class teacher with day-to-day classroom activities and routines
- Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to support learning, communication and engagement
- Help pupils develop independence, social skills and confidence within the school environment
- Support children and young people with additional needs to access lessons and activities throughout the day
- Help create a calm, safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
- Work closely with teaching staff and the wider school team to meet individual needs and share progress
The Candidate
- Previous experience working with children or young adults is essential
- Experience in care, support work, residential care, youth work or similar settings is required
- A teaching assistant qualification is not essential
- A patient, calm and flexible approach to supporting learning, behaviour and wellbeing
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
- An understanding of working with individuals with SEND
