New Directions Education are currently looking for a Welsh-Speaking Learning Support Assistant to work in a primary school in Port Talbot starting September. You will be required to work with groups of pupils across Key Stages, supporting within the classroom with day to day activities helping the class teacher. This is a full time role starting in September, working hours are 8:30am – 3:30pm Monday to Friday. Pay rate is £95 per day.

Working within a Welsh medium school is not only rewarding but essential in keeping the Welsh language prominent within our society. We are looking for reliable and responsible individuals, who are passionate about working with children to help them strive and make their school experience a fun and safe environment by giving them the tools to reach their full potential.

Your responsibilities will be to support the teacher in delivering lessons and activities in a safe and engaging manner, assisting in the preparation of lessons plans and learning resources and encouraging positive behaviour and supporting the teacher with classroom management.

Ideally, we ask for 3 months minimum experience working with children or have a child-based qualification. We do consider candidates who have transferable skills, this means having experience working in social care, coaching, or nursing.

As a Welsh Speaking Learning Support Assistant, you’ll be expected to:

  • Have a good understanding of the Welsh Language
  • Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
  • Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
  • Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
