New Directions are currently recruiting a friendly and experienced Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and welcoming team at a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities school in Partington. This is a full-time role supporting a child with complex needs. The successful candidate will have previous experience working with children with SEND and will be confident in providing consistent, individualised support to help the pupil access learning, communication and daily routines in a safe and positive environment. This role is due to start in May 2026 and will continue for the rest of the academic year. There may be a permanent opportunity for the right person.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 support for a child with complex needs throughout the school day
- Work closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team to deliver tailored support and learning activities
- Support the child’s communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and independence
- Adapt classroom activities and resources to meet individual needs and learning targets
- Assist with personal care, ensuring dignity, safety and wellbeing at all times
- Help create a calm, safe, structured and engaging learning environment
- Monitor progress, observe responses to strategies and share feedback with staff and families where appropriate
The Candidate
- Previous experience working with children with SEND, including complex needs
- Comfortable supporting personal care as part of the role
- Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle
- A calm, patient and consistent approach to supporting behaviour, communication and learning
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider team
- Understanding of individual learning needs and the importance of adapting support accordingly
- Reliable, flexible and committed to helping children feel safe, valued and successful
- A Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant childcare/support experience is desirable
