New Directions Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support students across a range of educational settings in the Leeds area. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and compassionate HLTA who is passionate about helping children and young people with additional learning needs reach their full potential. We are looking for individuals who can confidently support teaching and learning, deliver targeted interventions, and positively impact the lives of students with a variety of SEN requirements.
About the Role
As an SEN HLTA, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, speech and language difficulties, and moderate to complex learning needs. Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs and wider support teams, you will help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver planned learning activities and interventions for individuals and small groups
- Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of special educational needs
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support lesson delivery and student progress
- Lead classroom sessions and cover lessons when required
- Support the development of pupils’ communication, social and emotional skills
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage student engagement
- Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
Essential Requirements
- HLTA Qualification (Essential)
- Previous experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant
- Experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs
- Strong understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive learning practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive and nurturing relationships with students and staff
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
