We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and committed

1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Key Stage 3 pupil within our Pupil Referral Unit in L28, Knowsley.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a significant difference to the educational journey of a young person by providing tailored support that enables them to access learning, develop confidence and achieve their full potential.

A minimum Level 2 British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an essential requirement for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a KS3 pupil throughout the school day.
  • Use British Sign Language (BSL) to facilitate effective communication and access to learning.
  • Support the pupil’s academic, social and emotional development.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and other professionals to implement individual support plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with the pupil, their family and the wider staff team.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum

Level 2 British Sign Language (BSL) qualification.

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within a school or specialist setting.
  • Understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Calm, patient and adaptable approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), alternative provision or specialist educational setting.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
  • Team Teach, PRICE or other positive behaviour support training (or willingness to undertake training).
