New Directions Education are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic Classroom Assistant to work in Primary & Secondary schools in the Cardigan area. We have a high demand for long‑term and ad‑hoc positions, meaning we can offer work that fits around your schedule.

Qualifications in the Education and Childcare field are beneficial but those without qualifications and with transferrable skills from previous roles are encouraged to apply. This can include after school clubs, sports coaching, care work, customer service etc. Welsh speaking is essential for this role.

Creating a good working relationship with a school is imperative whilst representing New Directions to ensure the best possible feedback, and to be requested for further placements.

Working within a Welsh medium school is not only rewarding but essential in keeping the Welsh language prominent within our society. We are looking for reliable and responsible individuals, who are passionate about working with children to help them strive and make their school experience a fun and safe environment by giving them the tools to reach their full potential.

Your responsibilities will be to support the teacher in delivering lessons and activities in a safe and engaging manner, assisting in the preparation of lesson plans and learning resources and encouraging positive behaviour and supporting the teacher with classroom management.

Ideally, we ask for 3 months minimum experience working with children or have a child‑based qualification. We do consider candidates who have transferable skills, this means having experience working in social care, coaching, or nursing.

Teaching, Learning or Classroom Assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools. We specialise in recruiting Teaching Assistants (TA) who are qualified in the following:

  • NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant
  • NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant
  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
  • CACHE Level 3 in Childcare & Education
  • BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing)

We’ll also consider experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who have previously held a job in a primary school or assisted a pupil in the role in a secondary school but do not hold any of the above qualifications.

As a Welsh Speaking Learning Support Assistant, you’ll be expected to:

  • Have a good understanding of the Welsh Language
  • Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
  • Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
  • Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
